(San Diego, CA) - Shaney Fink, who is wrapping up her twelfth year with USD Athletics and her seventh in the role of Associate Director of Athletics for Compliance and Student Services/Senior Woman Administrator, has been elevated to Senior Associate Director of Athletics. Fink, whose new role will officially begin on June 1st, takes over for Mike Matoso who recently accepted the position of Director of Athletics at Cal State Stanislaus.
"I am pleased to announce that Shaney Fink has been elevated to the position of Senior Associate Athletic Director," said Ky Snyder, Executive Director of Athletics. "Shaney is more than ready to take on this challenge. Over the past 12 years, she has worked in positions of increasing responsibility at USD, with great success every step of the way. Shaney has contributed substantially to the strides USD Athletics has made in winning championships, while graduating exceptional student athletes. She is a proven leader - both in her role as Associate AD for Compliance and Student Services/Senior Woman Administrator - as well as in a variety of important NCAA and conference cabinets, councils, and committees."
In her new role she will have responsibility for the day-to-day operations and management of 17 NCAA Division I intercollegiate teams which includes over 450 student-athletes.
"I'm proud of the great strides we have made and yet I know we have only just scratched the surface of our capability," said Shaney Fink. USD student-athletes, coaches, staff and campus community are exceptional and I am thrilled for the opportunity to ensure we continue to work together and maximize our strengths to build on our success."
More recently Fink has had sports supervision for women's volleyball, women's tennis, men's and women's rowing and administrative oversight of athletic training, sports performance, academics and student development services.
She is a member of the NCAA Legislative Council, the NCAA Legislative Council Football Championship Series Subcommittee and is a former member of the NCAA Division 1 Progress towards Degree Waiver Committee. As a member of the West Coast Conference Executive Council she serves on the Academics, Legislation & Compliance Cabinet, Administration and Operations Committee and the Awards Committee. On campus she serves on the Black Student Retention and Recognition Committee, chairs the Gender Equity, Diversity, Student Athlete Welfare Committee and the Torero Athletics Council.
Prior to her current position, she was Assistant Director of Athletics for Academics and Student Services, and since her arrival at USD has overseen the Academic Support Program.
During the 1999 season she assisted the Torero volleyball coaching staff, helping the Toreros to a 23-6 record and second round finish in the NCAA Tournament. Prior to USD she gained coaching experience at the high school, college and international levels for five years. She capped off an impressive collegiate career (1990-93) at Cal Berkeley and won selection to the All-Pac 10 Decade Team.
Fink earned her B.A. in Social Science from Berkeley and her Masters Degree at USD in Counseling. Shaney and her husband, Tom Vorkoper, reside in Encinitas with their three children - Lucas, Mia and Leon.
