SAN DIEGO -- The University of San Diego is pleased to announce that Zach Harris and Meghan O'Rourke have been hired on for positions with the Athletics Development Department; it was announced today by Tyler Mariucci, Senior Associate Athletics Director for Development. Zach Harris joins the team in the role of Assistant Athletics Director for Development, and Meghan O'Rourke will be the department's Assistant Director of Development. Both will serve all functions of the development department. Harris will focus on higher end annual and major gifts, while O'Rourke will focus on annual fund programs, operations and events as well as managing a portfolio of annual and major gift donors.
"After a nationwide search, we are excited to welcome both Zach and Meghan to the USD athletics family," said Mariucci. "Both bring a unique set of skills and experiences to our development office, that I am confident will help move the fundraising needle forward. Zach's prior experience as a Director of Development at two universities, his engaging personality and track record of fundraising success make him a great asset for our team. Meghan's previous athletics development experience, service oriented mindset, combined with being a decorated former USD student-athlete, will also serve as a tremendous asset to our team and donor base."
Harris, whose first official day will be August 15th, comes to USD from Ursinus College in Collegeville, Pennsylvania where he held the title of Director of Athletic Fundraising Programs and Major Gifts Officer. As part of the Major and Planned Gifts team, Zach developed long-term relationships with alumni, family and friends of Ursinus in order to help match philanthropic interests of donors with the College's identified campaign needs. He joined the Advancement Office at Ursinus in January 2015.
Prior to Ursinus, Zach served as the Director of Development for the College of Education at West Chester University, where he was responsible for all major gift fundraising initiatives. He also served on the Association of Fundraising Professional's "Next Generation" national board, comprised of fundraising professionals under the age of 30. Before WCU, Zach held multiple relationship management positions within the Philadelphia Phillies organization. He was a part of a sales team that helped the Phillies sell out a National League record 257 consecutive home games and lead Major League Baseball in attendance from 2010 to 2012.
Harris earned his B.S. degree in Marketing from Villanova University (2010) and his MBA from the University of New Haven (2011). This fall at USD he'll be starting the PhD program in Leadership Studies.
O'Rourke returns to USD after working in the UC San Diego Athletics Department as an External Relations Assistant since June of 2015.
