Torero Dance Team Finishes Fourth at Nationals
March 23, 2016

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The USD Dance Team finished in fourth place last weekend at the USA Collegiate Cheer and Dance Nationals in Anaheim, Calif. The Toreros, who were the smallest school competing in the four-year Division I category, beat out Boise State, Idaho State, University of Colorado, and University of Hawaii.

"There aren't enough words to describe how proud I am of this team and how they represented our school,” Head Coach Nicole DeMartini said. “We are a small program, with the girls' main focus on their education, so to see a reward like this for all of the long hours of practice, hard work and dedication they have put in throughout the year, is truly satisfying and deserving."

The Toreros kicked off the competition with a strong showing in the prelims Saturday evening, earning them great scores and good placement.

In the finals, USD bumped up their scores from the individual judges and their overall scores, helping them capture fourth place. The Toreros were just tenths of a point behind the third place team, the University of Oregon. The top two spots were claimed by San Diego State and Northern Arizona University.

This is the third top-five placement for the USD Dance Team. They have previously placed third, fifth, and seventh in this category.
