Junior in 2005: Turned in an outstanding junior campaign... Became just the sixth pitcher in USD school history to strikeout 100+ batters in a single season... Led the staff in wins (8), K's (106), innings (116.2) and starts (18)... Named one of the nation's top professional prospects by Baseball America... Raced out to a 5-1 record and a 1.82 ERA midway through the season after defeating San Diego State (3-11-05)... Struck out a career-high 12 batters in just six innings during that victory over SDSU... Pitched a complete-game seven-inning shutout vs. Evansville (2-27-05) and was named to the 2005 Aggie Baseball Classic All-Tournament Team during a late February trip to College Station, Texas... Blaine helped USD win team championship honors at the tournament hosted by Texas A&M... Struck out seven or more batters six different times... Fanned nine twice, first vs. Evansville (2-27-05) and later against USF (4-30-05)... Dropped three consecutive decisions in late March, but bounced back to win three consecutive decisions late in the year, going 3-0 with a 1.53 ERA during wins over Portland (4-23-05), San Francisco (4-30-05) and Gonzaga (5-7-05)... Posted a season ERA of 3.55... Very durable starter averaging nearly seven innings per start.

Sophomore in 2004: Solidified USD's weekend rotation as the Toreros' Sunday starter... Hurled six innings of three-run baseball against then-No. 9 Long Beach State (3-14-04) in front of 20,737 fans at San Diego's new downtown stadium Petco Park... Also shutdown conference rival Pepperdine (4-18-04) in front of a national TV audience courtesy of College Sports TV, pitching into the eighth inning allowing just five hits and two runs... Made a total of 13 starts and 20 appearances... Posted a season record of 4-3 with an ERA of 5.10... Struck out 58 in 77.2 innings of work... Fanned a season-high six on three different occasions... Started and allowed USD a 7-4 victory at Cal State Fullerton (3-9-04)... Also picked up a pair of saves, his first coming in two-plus innings of work in the front end of a double-header sweep over Santa Clara (4-10-04) and then made the start in game two, going three full innings in a 12-1 USD rout... Earned his second save, closing out PAC-10 member California (5-12-04)... Went through a stretch in mid-April going 2-0 with a 2.14 ERA in five appearances and three starts... Shutdown Portland (4-25-04) in one of his strongest outings of the season, allowing just one run and punching-out six in seven full innings... Recorded a strikeout in every start and in all but two appearances... Was 2-1 with 35 K's and a 4.66 ERA in 48.1 innings within WCC play... Honored as a 2004 WCC All-Academic Team selection (3.67 GPA; Business).

Freshman in 2003: Led the Torero staff with a 3.10 ERA in West Coast Conference play... Bounced back from a slow start to become one of the best left-handed starters in the West Coast Conference... Was roughed up by Texas and Texas Tech in two of his first three collegiate starts and was resigned to the bullpen for the better part of the non-conference schedule... Took advantage of a mid-week start, throwing four scoreless innings against USC (4-8-03), earning his second win of the season... Never left the starting rotation after that win, turning in six strong performances in a row- propelling USD into the WCC Championships and NCAA Regionals... Was 3-1 with a 2.48 ERA during that six game span... During a three week stretch in April the Torero offense provided little to no run support for Blaine, going scoreless through 16 plus innings... Struck out 17 in his first 19 innings of work as a freshman... Worked a season-high six and a third innings twice, vs. Loyola Marymount (5-4-03) and at Portland (5-11-03)... Struck out a career-high seven against Portland (5-11-03)... Posted a record of 4-5, 52 K's and an ERA of 4.28.

Prep: Attended Westlake High School and was named the Warriors Pitcher of the Year as a senior... Compiled a 19-6 overall record as a prep junior and senior... Helped the Warriors reach postseason play for three straight seasons, making a CIF Finals appearance as a junior... Honored as an All-County and All-Marmonte League player as a junior and senior... Coached by Chuck Berrington at Westlake High School.

Personal: Born on March 12, 1984 in Los Angeles, California as Davis Justin Blaine... Was also recruited by UCLA, Michigan and Loyola Marymount... Son of Davis and Karen Blaine... Notes ping-pong as a favorite activity.
