Drafted by the Boston Red Sox in the 2004 MLB First-Year Player Draft (1380 overall, 46th round)

Career: One of the most accomplished players to ever wear a USD uniform... Became the first player in USD history to be named a First Team All-West Coast Conference performer three times... Hit for a career average of .325 as San Diego's everyday centerfielder... His excellent defense and offensive ability as the Torero leadoff hitter helped USD win 35 games as a senior and a school record 39 as a junior. He led the WCC and ranked among the nation's best in walks drawn (55) in 2004... Ranks fifth all-time at USD with 166 runs scored... As a sophomore in 2001 he hit .313 at scored a team-leading 53 runs... He also set a school record with nine saves and in 2002 and was honored as the league's pitcher of the week three times, allowing USD the school's first-ever NCAA Tournament victory, throwing seven scoreless innings against New Mexico State at the Arizona State regional in Mesa... Despite sitting out the 2003 season as a redshirt, he was still drafted by the Boston Red Sox in the 2003 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft.

2003: Drafted in the 44th round of the 2003 MLB First-Year Player Draft by Boston despite taking a medical redshirt... Appeared in just nine games at the beginning of the season... Did not pitch... Registered 31 at-bats and hit for a .290 average... Stole a pair of bases and went 2-for-4 with an RBI against his former team, Texas (2-2-03)... Put up back-to-back 2-hit games against both UC Riverside (2-21-03) and Oregon State (3-1-03)... Knocked in four RBI in just nine games and eight starts, all as a DH.

Junior in 2002: Caple did it all for the Toreros during USD's championship season of 2002... He was honored as an All-West Coast Conference First Team player for the second consecutive season... As San Diego's everyday centerfielder, he hit .318 in 2002, helping USD amass a school record 39 wins... Enjoyed a 12-game hitting streak in which he went 4-for-6 and drove in five runs at San Francisco (3-8-02)... Scored 54 times, hit 11 doubles and drove in 30 runs... As a pitcher, Caple earned WCC Pitcher of the Week honors three times... Allowed San Diego the school's first ever NCAA Tournament win, beating New Mexico State (6-1-02) 2-1 in Regional action, working seven scoreless innings, allowing just five hits and striking out four... Began the season 6-0 as USD's Saturday starter... Posted a USD single-game best 11 K's in just four innings against UC Irvine (1-25-02)... Fanned 95 batters on the year, second only to teammate Ricky Barrett in the WCC... Baseball America tabbed Caple's breaking ball as the best in the league entering the 2003 season... On four different occasions Caple fanned 10 or more batters, including doing so in back-to-back starts against division rivals Portland (3-23-02) and Loyola Marymount (3-30-02).

Sophomore in 2001: First Team All-West Coast Conference player as a sophomore... Posted a team-high 53 runs in 53 games in 2001... Hit .313 playing and starting in all 53 games... Hit two homers drove in three runs at Gonzaga (4-7-01)... Posted a .438 on-base percentage... Hit 14 doubles and three triples... As the Torero's closing pitcher, Caple posted a 5-3 record and 2.43 ERA... Struck out 77 batters in 85 innings of work while walking just 23... Led the conference and set a USD school record with 9 saves... Finished third in the WCC with a 2.43 ERA and was tied for fifth in the conference with 25 appearances.

Freshman in 2000 (Texas): Played freshman year with Texas Longhorns... Appeared in 5 games, two in relief pitching outings.... Registered three at-bats over three games and one start... Scored a run and posted an RBI.

Prep: Played at Rancho Bernardo HS where senior year helped lead Broncos to CIF championship... Selected All-State and 2nd Team All-American (Baseball America)... Junior year earned All-State honors with team placing 2nd in CIF championships... A two-time California State Player of the Year and three-time All-San Diego County selection... Named to the Team USA Junior National Team in 1998... Senior year batted .375, and was 10-2 on mound with 151 Ks.
