Lobos Outlast Toreros in 11-Inning Thriller

USD dropped game two of the series, 3-2, to force a rubber game on Sunday.

SOPHOMORE (2013): Played in 28 games with nine starts... helped lead the team to the WCC Tournament championship, and into the NCAA Regionals...hit .167 with one hit on six plate appearances...recorded his lone hit of the season against UC Riverside (4/23).

FRESHMAN (2012): Appeared in nine games, but only had one at-bat (0-for-1)... Scored two runs.

High School: Played baseball at Claremont High School for coach Steve Jackson...his freshman year he was name MVP and had a .545 batting average...his sophomore year he had a batting average of .500...his junior year he had 21 hits, 20 steals, an on base percentage of .432, a batting average of .333...that year he was also named Defensive Player of the Year...his senior year he had a batting average of .304 and was once again named the Defensive Player of the Year.

Personal: Grant Davis Melker was born on February 2, 1993 in Pomona, CA...he is the son of Guy Melker and Kerry Melker...he was also recruited by Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, and UC Riverside...he chose to attend because of the great baseball program, the good weather, and the academics...his club baseball team was the San Gabriel Valley Arsenal...his brother, Adam Melker, played baseball at Cal Poly SLO and now plays in the St. Luis Cardinals organization.
