FRESHMAN (2016): Played in 49 games in the 2016 season, starting in 47 of them... Hit .263 with 28 total runs, 21 RBI, seven doubles, and a triple... Hit three RBI against Portland (4/29) and Pacific (5/14) while going 7-for-8 in those two games combined... Had a strong series against William & Mary (3/6-8) hitting 6-for-14 with three runs and an RBI... Went 2-for-4 against New Mexico State (3/11), 3-for-5 against Baylor (3/12) and 3-for-6 against Columbia (3/15) with a total of five runs and three RBI in those three games combined... went 4-for-7 in the first two games against BYU (4/7-8)... Went 3-for-4 against UNLV (4/11) with two RBI and a double... went 2-for-4 against Santa Clara (4/15) with two runs, an RBI, and two doubles... went 2-for-4 at San Francisco with a run, double, and RBI.
HIGH SCHOOL: Prepped at Valhalla High School...earned four varsity letters in baseball...as a senior, he hit .370 with an on-base percentage of .478...named first-team All-East County, first-team All-Grossmont Hills League and named his team's MVP as a senior...in his junior season, he hit .342 with a .416 OBP en route to being named the Defensive Player of the Year, All-East County and second-team All-League...as a sophomore, he hit .316 with .476 OBP en route to being named Defensive Player of the Year and earning All-League honorable mention accolades...also played freshman football and basketball.
PERSONAL: Jeffery Michael Houghtby was born on May 13, 1997 in San Diego, Calif....he is the son of Tim and Jeanne Houghtby...was also recruited by Saint Mary's, Arizona, Loyola Marymount, and Nevada...chose to attend USD because of the outstanding educational and baseball programs, great campus, perfect weather, and the comfortable environment.
