USD will close out regular-season with a pair of road games this week.
USD has now won the programs sixth WCC regular-season title, and first since 2010.
David Hill allowed one run on two hits, while striking out 10 in a complete game victory.
USD will return to action on Friday at 6 p.m. as they host Pepperdine in the final WCC series of the season.
USD has now secured a spot in the WCC Tournament with this win.
JUNIOR (2015): Played and started in 55 games as the everyday third baseman... hit .295 with 10 doubles and 23 RBI… helped lead the team to the WCC championship…went 6-8 with one double in the series against Morehead State (2/13-15/15)… went 3-4 with one RBI against San Diego State (2/24/15)… went 4-5 with one double against No. 7 Mississippi State (3/8/15)… went 3-4 against Cal State Fullerton (4/7)… went 3-4 with two RBI against UC Riverside (4/815)… went 3-8 with two doubles and thre RBI against Saint Mary’s College (4/24/15).
SOPHOMORE(2014): Played in 23 games with nine starts... hit .303 with 10 hits and four RBI... went 1-for-2 with one RBI against Loyola Marymount (3/23)... went 2-for-2 with one RBI against San Diego State (4/1).
FRESHMAN (2013): Played in 30 games with 12 starts...hit .286 with 16 hits, two doubles and 11 RBI... helped lead the team to the WCC Tournament championship, and into the NCAA Regionals...went 3-for-6 with four RBI against Holy Cross (3/9)...went 3-for-4 with one RBI against BYU (3/16)...went 2-for-4 with one run scored against Stony Brook (3/3).
FRESHMAN (2012): Redshirted at USD.
HIGH SCHOOL: Played baseball at Grandview High School for coach Dean Adams...his junior year he had two homeruns, had 24 RBI and seven stolen bases which led him to a batting average of .516...his senior year his batting average was .454 where he has three homeruns, 33 RBI and six stolen bases...He was named first-team all Centennial League both his junior and senior year...he was first-team All-State his junior year and his senior year he got All-State Honorable mention...his senior year he also set the school record for hits.
PERSONAL:Jerod Dale Smith was born on July 8, 1992...he is the son of Rod and Catrina Smith...he was also recruited by New Mexico, Utah, and the Air Force...he chose USD because of the baseball program, location, and academic reputation...his father Rod Smith, also played baseball at the collge level for Western New Mexico...Jerod also plays the guitar.
