FRESHMAN (2017): Appeared in 12 games (started 3) in 30.2 innings pitched with 35 strikeouts... In his last appearance of the season, he allowed no runs in 3 innings pitched at SDSU (5/16).

HIGH SCHOOL: Prepped at Granite Hills High School...in his senior year, he went a perfect 8-0 on the mound with a 0.49 ERA, while recording 69 strikeouts, only issuing nine walks, gave up just 11 hits, and had a 0.47 WHIP in 43 innings of work, after missing the first part of the season with an injury...also threw a pair of no-hitter in his senior year...was named All-State, All-CIF Southern Section, Rawlings third-team All-American and named the Desert Sky Player of the Year...rated the No. 2 left-handed pitcher in California by Perfect Game, and 19th best overall payer in the state by Perfect Game... was a varsity starter all four seasons with the Cougars...in his four years at Granite Hills, he threw 218.1 innings and went 25-10 with a 1.64 ERA...he allowed 158 hits, struck out 276 and walked 60...was drafted by the New York Yankees in the 31st round of the 2016 MLB draft.

PERSONAL: Miles Alexander Sandum was born on July 2, 1997 in Youngstown, Ohio...he is the son of Troy and Marcy Sandum...was also recruited by UCLA, UC Santa Barbara, Cal Poly and Navy...chose to attend USD because he believes achieving a degree from USD can open more career doors when compared to other universities, and he also loves the San Diego area and the USD baseball program is second to none...notes he loves Pop-Tarts.
