Baseball Recruiting Class Ranked No. 4 Nationally

USD is one of three non-BCS schools to have a top-10 ranking in this years recruiting class.

Ramon Orozco enters his ninth season overall at the University of San Diego and sixth as an assistant coach. Orozco will work primarily with the team's offense and catchers as well as the infielders.

In addition, Orozco also assists with recruiting and develops scouting reports. He has also been effective in developing players who have moved on to professional baseball. Orozco has been involved with 38 players drafted with 5 playing Major League Baseball. In his 15 years of coaching experience, 45 of his student-athletes have signed MLB contracts.

During Orozco's eight seasons on the Torero staff, the Toreros have compiled a 286-175 record (.612), while advancing to the NCAA Tournament five times.

2014 - Helped lead USD to an overall record of 36-20. Senior LHP/OF and 2-way standout Louie Lechich, Andrew Daniel and Connor Joe earned 3rd Team All-American honors as well as 1st Team All WCC. Three position players were selected in the MLB Draft: Joe (1st Rd - Pirates) Lechich (6th Rd - White Sox), Daniel (11th Rd - Angels). The Toreros were tops in the NCAA. The team ranked 3rd in team batting average, 7th in slugging percentage, 8th in on base percentage, 9th in doubles, 10th in scoring, 22nd in runs, 23rd in homeruns and 26th in hits

2013 - Orozco helped USD to earn a berth to the inaugural WCC Tournament, and led them to the championship out of the losers bracket. With the championship, the Toreros earned the automatic bid into the NCAA Regional. At UCLA, they advanced to the Regional Championship game after defeating both SDSU and Cal Poly, but losing to UCLA - the eventual National Champion. Junior Kris Bryant earned the Golden Spikes Award, Dick Howser Award as well as 1st team All-American and WCC Co-Player of the year as well as 1st Team All WCC. AJ Robinson, Austin Green and Connor Joe also earned 1st team All WCC. Three position players were selected in the MLB Draft: Kris Bryant (1st Rd - Cubs), Austin Green (13th Rd - Tigers), and Dillion Haupt (20th Rd - White Sox).


2012 - He helped to lead USD to a 40-17 record, as well as a Regional berth for the second time in three years. Position players Kris Bryant Andrew Daniel and Corey LeVier were named 1st Team All -WCC. Bryant was also named 1st All American and Andrew Daniel and Austin Bailey were Freshman All-American. Bryan Haar (34th Rd - Twins) was selected in the MLB Draft.

2011- The Toreros finished the season with a record of 22-31 and tied for 3rd in the WCC. Kris Bryant was named Co-Player of the year and Co-Freshman of the year. Bryan Haar, Zach Kometani and Cory LeVier were named All WCC Kometani was selected 21st Rd by the Padres in the MLB Draft.

2010- Orozco helped guide the Toreros to the WCC championship with a 19-2 record, (37-22 overall), breaking the all time win percentage mark in conference history. James Meador was the WCC Player of the Year as well as 3rd team All-America by Louisville Slugger. Nick McCoy, Kevin Muno and Kris Engell were selected All-WCC First Team. Five Toreros were selected in the 2010 MLB Draft: Zach Walters (9th Rd - Diamondbacks), Mike Ferraro (20th Rd - Yankees), Meador (21st Rd- Tigers), Victor Sanchez (26th Rd - Cardinals), and McCoy (36th Rd - Yankees).

Kamuela Paniolos - Orozco was in charge of the offense for the Hawaii Collegiate Baseball League Champion. His team led the league in homeruns and was second in total runs scored. It was the teams first ever title.

DuPage County Dragons - Orozco served as the pitching coach of the Dragons in the Central Illinois Collegiate Summer League (Prospect League). During his first season as a pitching coach, he helped guide them to the regular- season Co-Championship. During the season, Orozco helped the team post a franchise-best 25-19 overall record and the second lowest earned run average in the CICL.

Orozco played his college baseball at Los Angeles Mission College and California Lutheran University. While at CLU he was a member of two Division III Western Regional teams. His senior year Orozco helped CLU win a Western Regional Championship and a College World Series appearance. CLU finished eighth in the final polls of 1998.

Orozco earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics in 1999 from California Lutheran University. He also holds two masters degrees, one in Cross-Cultural Education that he earned in 2002 from National University, and the other is a Masters degree in Educational Administration from the University of La Verne that he received in 2005.
