Sophomore in 2003: Followed up a promising freshman year with an outstanding second season... Hit 20 doubles as a sophomore, which was third highest all-time by any Torero in a single-season... Homered from both sides of the plate, driving in five runs and scoring three times against Cal Poly SLO (1-26-03)... Down the stretch Sandoval was a big reason USD was able to win 9-of-10 and knock off league favorite Pepperdine in post season play... During the WCC Championship Series, Sandoval went 6-of-13 against the Waves... Hit safely in 10 straight games from May 2-May 30... Finished the season with a .319 batting average, while hitting .330 in WCC games... Hit 13 doubles in 27 league games and 109 at-bats... Scored a career-high four runs against St. Mary's (4-19-03)... Enjoyed 18 multi-hit games with three or more hits on five different occasions... Had 10 multiple RBI games, hitting in four at Santa Clara (4-11-03), three at Texas Tech (2-9-03) and three more at USF (3-14-03)... Homered in NCAA Regional first round play against CS Fullerton (5-30-03)... Tripled against Notre Dame (5-31-03) in NCAA Regional play... Led the team with a pair of triples on the season... Hit .304 with RBI opportunities... Led the team with five sacrifice flies... Played in 54 games, starting 53 at third base and one at DH... Hit third in the batting order 51 times in 54 starts.
Freshman in 2002: Hit 10 doubles and knocked in 32 runs as a true freshman... Had 10 multi-hit games... Played in 50 games while starting 39... Hit over .300 for most of the non-conference season... Went 3-for-6 with a USD single season high six RBI's in third collegiate game at Cal Poly (2-3-02)... Went 3-for-4 and scored three runs vs. Point Loma Nazarene (2-13-02)... Went 2-for-3 in game one of the WCC Championship Series at Pepperdine (5-26-02).
Prep: Comes to USD from Tijuana, Mexico... Attended Marian Catholic High School in San Diego area... Hit over .400 for three straight seasons as a prep... Led the Crusaders to a 19-game winning streak and a 26-5 record as a senior... Named the CIF player of the Year as a senior... First team All-CIF and All-Harbor League performer as a sophomore, junior and senior... Hit 15 homeruns his senior season and 10 as a sophomore... Served as team captain for two seasons... Coached by Ed Johnson at Marian Catholic.
