WCC Honors 110 USD Student-Athletes on Commissioner's Honor Roll

The nine WCC schools put a total of 1,093 student-athletes on the list from the 13 sports that the conference sponsors, which is another new conference record.

JUNIOR (2011): Made one game start and 11 appearances with an 11.12 ERA in 11.1 innings pitched...totaled four strikeouts...recorded his longest outings against UC Irvine (4/5/2011) and San Diego Christian (5/11/2011) with 2.2 inning pitched...had his first game start against UC Irvine on April 19, 2011.

SOPHOMORE (2010): Redshirted at USD.

FRESHMAN (2009): Appeared in five games for San Diego as a reliever... he finished the season with a 0-0 record and a 10.80E.R.A...his longest outing in 2009 was 3.2 innings on February 27 at home against the University of Pacific.

HIGH SCHOOL: Played baseball at San Joaquin Memorial High School for Coach Pete Oalena...he was a three time All-League award winner...in his senior season, he also received All-Valley league honors...he also earned varsity letters in Football and Soccer, where he was an All-League selection and team MVP on the soccer team, and was Specialist of the Year for his Football team.

PERSONAL: Nick Youpel was born on February 17, 1990 in Fresno, Calif....he is the son of Bill and Marlene Youpel...he was also recruited by the University of Pacific...chose to attend USD because of the location and the university's outstanding academic reputation...his older brother, Derek, played soccer for fellow WCC member Saint Mary's.
