Final Stats

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The University of San Diego baseball team dropped a 7-2 non-conference game to No. 3 Oregon State University Friday evening at Fowler Park.

The Beavers (8-1) got on the scoreboard first, as in the top of the third inning, OSU took advantage of a wild pitch, to push across the first run of the game. OSU then went on to score one run in the top of the fifth and sixth innings to take a 3-0 lead.

San Diego (4-5) then responded in the bottom of the sixth by scoring one run on two hits. Connor Doyle got things started with a single, and he moved to second on a Jeff Houghtby groundout. Doyle then moved to third on a Hunter Mercado-Hood fly out to centerfield, and Riley Adams drove in Doyle with an RBI single to centerfield, to move the score to 3-1.

The Beavers then went on to score two in the seventh, and one in each the eighth and ninth innings to put the game out of reach at 7-1. USD then took back one run in the top of the ninth on a Conner Jauch groundout, which scored Ryan Kirby, who had singled, to put the game at its final of 7-2.

Offensively for the Toreros, Kirby led the way, as he went 2-for-3 with one run scored.

Troy Conyers (1-2) was saddled with the loss on the mound for the Toreros, as he allowed three runs, two earned, on five hits in 5.0 innings of work. Oregon State’s Rasmussen (2-0) picked up the win, as he allowed one run on four hits in 7.0 innings of work.

The Toreros will return to action on Saturday, as they take on the Beavers once again in a game that will begin 45 minutes after the conclusion of the Williams & Mary vs. Oregon State game, which begins at 1 p.m. at Fowler Park.
