NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The University of San Diego baseball team rallied back from a 2-0 deficit to claim a 4-3 come-from-behind win over Lipscomb University Wednesday afternoon in a non-conference game.
With the win, the Toreros improve to 11-3 overall, run their winning streak to five games and complete a season sweep over the Bison. With the loss, the Lipscomb falls to 4-10 overall.
The Bison got on the scoreboard first, as they managed to push across two runs in the bottom of the first inning. The Lipscomb runs came on an M.L. Williams two-run homer to give the Bison an early 2-0 lead.
San Diego then managed to get on the scoreboard in the top of the third inning, scoring one run on one hit. AJ Robinson got things started as he drew a walk and moved to second on a Louie Lechich ground out to the first baseman. Julian Duran then drew a walk, and two batters later, Kris Bryant drove in Robinson with a RBI single to centerfield to move the score to 2-1.
USD then evened the score in the top of the eighth inning, as they scored one run on one hit. Connor Joe got things started when he drew a walk. Victor Rasor-Thompson was then inserted as a pinch runner for Joe, and Bryant moved Rasor-Thompson to second on a single through the left side. A Corey LeVier sacrifice bunt moved each runner up a base, and a Dillon Haupt sacrifice fly to centerfield pushed across Rasor-Thompson to knot the score up at 2-2.
In the top of the ninth, USD kept things rolling as they scored the go-ahead run on an Austin Green solo home run to lift USD to victory.
Offensively for the Toreros, Bryant led the way as he went 2-for-3 with an RBI.
James Pazos (3-1) picked up his third win of the season, as he allowed no runs on no hits, while striking out four in 2.0 innings of work. Lipscomb's Gil Rehwinkel (2-2) was saddled with the loss as he allowed one run on one hit in 2.0 innings of work.
The Toreros will take Thursday off before opening a three-game series with Vanderbilt on Friday at 2 p.m.
