SEATTLE, Wash. - The University of San Diego baseball team (9-8) downed the Huskies of the University of Washington (12-5), 8-4, in a non-conference game Tuesday evening at Husky Ballpark

The Toreros did most of their scoring damage in the third inning, scoring five runs on three hits. Justin Snyder got things rolling for the Toreros when he launched his first home run of the season, a two-run blast over the right field fence, scoring Josh Romanski, who had walked. Kevin Hansen then walked and advanced to second on a pass ball. Steve Singleton drove in Hansen on a double to left-center field pushing the lead to three. USD kept things rolling when the Washington second baseman committed an error allowing Singleton to reach third and Keoni Ruth to reach first base. The final two runs of the inning came when Daniel Magness hit a single to the pitcher, then advanced to second base on a throwing error by the pitcher which also scored both Ruth and Singleton giving USD a 5-0 lead.

Washington took back one run in the bottom of the third inning with a Bradley Boyer solo home run to left field.

The Toreros responded in the sixth inning by scoring two runs on one hit. Romanski rocketed a double to right-center to score Ryan Lilly, who reached on an error, and came across the plate when Jordan Abruzzo hit a sacrifice fly to right field giving USD a 7-1 advantage.

The Huskies would equal the Toreros sixth inning output with two runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning, and tacked on one more run in the bottom of the seventh inning to pull within three, but could come no closer as USD scored one run in the ninth inning on a Shane Buschini run-scoring double to right-center to seal the 8-4 win.

Offensively for the Toreros Romanski led the way with his 2-for-3 one RBI performance. Singleton, Buschini and Magness were the three other Toreros to record multiple hits on the day.

Ricardo Pecina (1-1) picks up his first win of the season for the Toreros allowing three runs on nine hits in 5.1 innings of work. Josh Butler picks up his first save of the season allowing no runs on one hit in two innings of work. Tim Lincecum (3-1) was saddled with the loss for the Huskies allowing seven runs, three earned, on eight hits in five innings of work.

The Toreros will return to action on Wednesday as they conclude the two-game set with the Huskies in a 2 p.m. non-conference game at Husky Ballpark.
