Keoni Ruth has a solid day at the plate going 3-for-5 with two runs scored

SAN DIEGO, Calif. -Five batters recorded multiple hits en route to the University of San Diego baseball team claiming a 10-3 non-conference win against University of Nevada, Las Vegas Saturday afternoon at Cunningham Stadium.
With the win, the Toreros improve to 17-10 and claim the three game non-conference series against the rebels. With the loss UNLV drops to 12-14.
USD had five batters recording multiple hits with Jordan Abruzzo leading the offensive charge going 2-for-5 with two RBI and one home run. Keoni Ruth also had a solid day at the plate with his 3-for-5 performance and two runs scored. Ryan Lilly hit 2-for-5 with one run scored and one RBI. Justin Snyder hit 2-for-3 with one run scored and two RBI. Steve Singleton hit 2-for-5 with one RBI.
The Toreros big inning came in the fifth inning when they scored three runs on two hits. Ruth led off with a stand-up double to left center field. After Daniel Magness was hit by a pitch, the Toreros first run of the inning came on a fielding error by the pitcher. Logan Gelbrich laid down a sacrifice bunt to the UNLV relief pitcher Matt Luca, and reached first base safely when Luca threw the ball away from the first baseman, allowing both Gelbrich and Magness to advance one base and allowing Ruth to come across for the first run of the inning. The Toreros final two runs of the inning came on a Justin Snyder two-run single up the middle pushing the toreros lead to 8-3.
The Toreros scored two runs in each of the second and third inning and one run in the first, sixth, and eighth innings to round out the scoring for the day.
Junior right hander Josh Butler (6-2) picked up the win for the Toreros allowing three runs, two earned, on eight hits while striking out five UNLV batters in seven complete innings of work. UNLV Starting pitcher Kevin Skogley (1-3) allowed five runs on seven hits in four innings of work.
The Toreros will return to action on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. as they close out the three game non-conference series against the Rebels at Cunningham stadium.
