FRESNO, Calif. - The University of San Diego baseball team dropped the series opener, 6-0, to No. 10 Fresno State University Friday evening in a non-conference game Beiden Field.
With the loss, the Toreros fall to 4-15 overall and their losing streak reaches seven. With the win, the Bulldogs improve to 16-2 overall.
Fresno State scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the third inning on a Brennan Gowens bases-loaded walk to move the score to 1-0.
After Fresno State scored one run in the bottom of fourth inning, the Bulldogs then capped the scoring for the day in the sixth inning, as they scored four runs on four hits. The FSU runs came on Austin Wynns two-run single, and a Danny Muno two-run single to put the game at its final of 6-0.
USD managed one hit on the evening, as Dillon Checkal broke-up the no-hitter in the top of the fourth inning with a lead-off single up the middle.
Calvin Drummond (1-4) was saddled with the loss on the mound for the Toreros, as he allowed six runs, five earned, on seven hits in 5.0 innings of work. FSU's Greg Gonzales was credited with the win, as he allowed no runs on one hit in 7.0 innings of work.
The Toreros will return to action on Saturday, as they continue this four-game series with the Bulldogs in a double-header. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
