Box Score

LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The 23rd-ranked University of San Diego baseball team dropped a 3-1 decision to Loyola Marymount University in a West Coast Conference game at Paige Stadium Sunday afternoon.

With the loss, the Toreros fall to 19-12 overall, move to 5-4 in the WCC and dropped the 3-game series to the Lions. With the win, LMU improve to 16-15 overall and 7-5 in the WCC.

The Lions were able to get on the scoreboard first, as they pushed across three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. The LMU runs came on a bases-loaded walk, a Cheek 2-run single to give the Lions a 3-0 lead.

USD answered right back as they took back a run in the top of the sixth inning. Lucas Hagberg was hit by a pitch to get things started. After Logan Davis moved Hageber to second on a single, Kris Bryant drew a walk to load the bases. Two batters later, AJ Robinson hit an RBI single to right field to score Hagberg and cut the lead won to 3-1.

USD then attempted another ninth-inning rally, as they got runners at second and third with two outs, but were unable to push across either of these runners to leave the game at its final of 3-1.

Offensively for the Toreros, Hagberg led the way, as he went 2-for-4 with one run scored.

Max MacNabb (3-3) was saddled with the loss on the mound for the Toreros, as he allowed three runs on two hits in 4.2 innings of work. LMU's Aaron Griffin (3-3) was credited with the win for the Lions, as he allowed one run on five hits in 6.0 innings of work.

The Toreros will return to action on Tuesday, as they host UC Irvine in a 6 p.m. non-conference game at Fowler Park.
