SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - Kevin Muno's run-scoring double in the top of the ninth inning lifted the 24th-ranked University of San Diego baseball team to a thrilling 4-3 West Coast Conference victory over the University of San Francisco Sunday afternoon at Benedetti Diamond.

With the win, the Toreros improve to 26-16 overall and remain undefeated in the WCC standings at 12-0. With the loss, the Dons fall to 22-23 overall and 5-6 in the WCC.

With the score tied at 3-3 in the top of the ninth inning, San Diego went to work to complete the three-game sweep of the Dons. Nick McCoy led off the inning being hit by a pitch, and moved to second on a Bryan Haar sacrifice bunt to the pitcher. Muno then launched a run-scoring double off the left field fence to give San Diego the go-ahead run and a 4-3 victory.

AJ Griffin (5-3) picked up the win on the mound for the Toreros after a complete-game gem. Griffin had a no-hitter going into the third inning, before a Connor Bernatz single up the middle broke it up. Griffin then settled down and kept the USF hits off balance. For the game, Griffin allowed three runs on six hits, while striking out 10 batters. USF's closer Matt Hiserman (1-2) was saddled with the loss for the Dons as he allowed one run on one hit in 0.2 innings of work.

The Toreros wasted no time in scoring as they scored one run on two hits in the top of the first inning. Muno led off the game with a stand-up double to left center, and moved to third on Chris Engell's infield single. After a Zach Walter four-pitch walk, James Meador hit a sacrifice fly to center field, pushing across Muno to give USD a 1-0 lead.

San Diego then doubled its lead in the top of the fourth inning on as Meador solo homer over the left center field fence to give the Toreros a 2-0 lead.

The Dons then cut the lead in half in the bottom of the fourth inning on a Stephen Yarrow RBI single, which scored Derek Poppert, who had doubled, to move the score to 2-1.

After USF took the lead at 3-2 in the bottom of the seventh inning on a Steven Yarrow solo home run over the right field fence, the Toreros would even the score at 3-3 in the top of the eighth inning, as they scored one run on a Tony Strazzara sacrifice fly to right field, scoring Engell, who was hit by a pitch, setting up the ninth-inning drama.

Offensively for the Toreros, Meador led the way as he went 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBI. Engell also had a good day at the plate as he went 2-for-4 with one run scored, and Muno was the only other USD player to record multiple hits as he went 2-for-5 with a double and one RBI.

San Diego will return to action on Tuesday as they return home to host UC Riverside in a 3 p.m. game at Cunningham Stadium.
