SAN DIEGO -- The USD Toreros defeated Pepperdine 8-2 to earn a weekend sweep and finish the regular-season with an overall record of 35-18-1. The 35 wins is the ninth time Coach Hill has reached 35 or more wins in a season. USD will now await news for a possible at-large pick into the NCAA Postseason. The Toreros finished with an 18-9 WCC mark to finish tied for 4th place with Saint Mary's. Louis Crow picked up today's win in relief to improve to 3-2. Riley Adams and Paul Kunst each collected 2 hits on the day.

San Diego got on the scoreboard first with two runs in the second inning. Brhet Bewley singled up the middle and Jeff Houghtby followed with a walk off of Pepperdine starter Jonathan Pendergast. Both runners advanced a base after a throwing error by Pendergast, and Paul Kunst followed with a 2-run single up the middle to give the Toreros a 2-0 lead.

Pepperdine tied up the game at 2-all in the top of the 4th when Aharon Modlin delivered a two-out two-run double down the left field line off of Torero starter Chris Murphy. Louis Crow replaced Murphy and got Saul Sandoval-Estrada to ground out to short to end the inning. In the 5th Pepperdine had runners on second and third with two outs, but Crow got himself out of a jam by striking out Ben Rodriguez.

In the bottom of the 5th Jay Schuyler walked to run his on-base streak to 39 straight games. He advanced to second on a wild pitch and junior Riley Adams knocked him in with a RBI single to center field to push USD ahead at 3-2. In the top of the 7th Crow got one out before seniors Sean Barry and Troy Conyers each came on to get an out for the Toreros to end the inning.

Conyers returned in the 8th and was helped by two spectacular defensive plays. Colton Waltner robbed Ben Rodriguez of a homer to deep center, and then second baseman Paul Kunst made a diving play to rob Brando Caruso of a hit to right center. His throw to Garcia just beat out Caruso. Conyers closed out the inning by striking out Josh Davis. The Toreros added two runs in the 8th to head to the 9th with a 6-run lead. Conyers closed out the game in the ninth for his 13th save of the season.

The Toreros took care of business by sweeping the Waves to finish 35-18-1 overall and 18-9 in the WCC standings. San Diego headed into this weekend series needing to win one more game than Saint Mary's, however the Gaels swept the Santa Clara Broncos to earn the 4th spot into next week's WCC Tournament. In a pregame ceremony, the Toreros paid tribute to seven seniors playing their final regular-season home game -- Sean Barry, CJ Burdick, Troy Conyers, Roman Garcia, Hunter Mercado-Hood, Aidan Stinnett and Colton Walter.
