March 11, 2006
SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The baseball game scheduled between the University of San Diego and San Diego State University for Saturday evening at Tony Gwynn Stadium has been postponed due to heavy rains in the San Diego Area.
The teams will make up the game on Sunday as part of a doubleheader. The first game will remain as scheduled for a 1 p.m. start at Cunningham Stadium, with the second game to be played at Tony Gwynn Stadium, on the campus of SDSU, at 6 p.m.
The Toreros captured the first game of the three-game series on Friday evening with a 3-1 win behind a strong pitching performance by freshman left-hander Brian Matusz. Matusz allowed one run on three hits through eight complete inning of work, including registering 10 strikeouts, his second highest single-game total of the season to lead USD to its third consecutive win.
The first game on Sunday will only be USD's sixth home game of the season having posted a 4-1 record on their home field. USD will not return home again until March 24 when they host UNLV for a three game series at Cunningham Stadium.
