SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Riley Adams was named the Rawlings WCC Player of the Week, the conference office announced Monday morning. Adams hit .385 (5-for-13) with four home runs, helping the No. 23 Toreros (13-4, 3-0) sweep the Pilots in their first WCC series of the season.
Adams' weekend was highlighted by his game-winning walk-off home run in the Toreros' 2-1 win over Portland Friday evening. Adams also hit a solo home run Tuesday against San Diego State and hit two bombs Sunday in the Portland series finale, an 8-2 USD win. Adams, a preseason-All-American, had a robust 1.308 slugging percentage over the weekend with 17 total bases.
Adams was recently profiled by Dan Zielinski of The3rdManIn.com and had this to say about the 2017 Toreros.
"I think we have a lot of older guys who are on the same page and want to do something special with this team," Adams said "(We want to) see ourselves in Omaha and be that first team in USB history to go (to the College World Series)."
Adams is the fourth Toreros to take home WCC Player of the Week honors. Nick Sprengel and Troy Conyers won Pitcher of the week back-to-back to start the season and Jay Schuyler was the Player of the week last week.
The Toreros, who moved up to No. 23 in the D1baseball.com top 25, host No. 5/6 Cal State Fullerton Tuesday evening at 6:00 p.m. in a matchup that features the only ranked teams in Southern California.
