SAN DIEGO, Calif. -- Riley Adams was named the Rawlings WCC Player of the Week, the conference office announced Monday morning. Adams hit .500 (6-for-12) with three home runs, two doubles, five walks, six runs and 10 RBI to help the Toreros go a perfect 4-0 last week.
Adams' week was highlighted by Saturday's performance when he hit two home runs, including a grand slam, and racked up six RBI.
Adams had a hit in all four of the Toreros' games. He began the week going 1-2 with a two-RBI double at UC Riverside. In the first game of the Pacific series, Adams was 2-for-3 with a HR, a double and two RBI. After going 1-for-3 Friday, Adams exploded for six RBI and two homers in the series finale.
Adams finished the week with a robust 1.417 slugging percentage and a .667 on-base percentage. He now leads the team in home runs (10) and RBI (33) and is hitting .393 in conference games, also a team-high.
Adams was profiled by Kirk Kenney in Monday's San Diego Union-Tribune.
This is the second time Adams has taken home WCC Player of the Week honors. He won the award on March 20 after hitting four home runs that week. This is the sixth time a Torero has taken home weekly honors: Nick Sprengel (Feb. 20), Troy Conyers (Feb. 27), Jay Schuyler (Mar. 13), Adams (Mar. 20) and Hunter Mercado-Hood (Apr. 10).
The Toreros rose to No. 19 in the Collegiate Baseball Top 30 poll after going a perfect 4-0 last week. They play No. 8 Cal State Fullerton Tuesday evening at The Diamond, home of the Lake Elsinore Storm, at 6:00 p.m.
Head Coach Rill Hill will be on "Perfect Game" with Daron Sutton and Mike Rooney on Sirius XM College Sports Nation (channel 84) tonight at 7:15 p.m. to preview Tuesday's game and talk about the Toreros' current five game win streak.
