Hill and Holder Haul in ABCA All-Region Honors
June 10, 2015

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The American Baseball Coaches Association has released the 2015 ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Div. I All-Region teams. Highlighting these teams are a pair of University of San Diego baseball players, in Kyle Holder and David Hill. Holder was named first team, while Hill took home second team honors.

The teams are voted on by members of the American Baseball Coaches Association and the process is led by the ABCA NCAA Div. I All-America Committee. All-Region first-team selections are eligible for ABCA/Rawlings All-America honors.

Holder, a first round draft pick of the New York Yankees, is the seventh San Diego student-athlete to capture West Coast Conference Player of the Year honors since 2007 and the third consecutive. Named to the 30-player Golden Spikes Award Watch List, Holder hit .387 with 13 doubles, two triples, one home run and 19 RBI during league play. The junior shortstop turned in a .976 fielding percentage, committing just three errors in 127 chances and contributed to 10 double plays during WCC games. Overall, Holder hit .348 with 78 hits, 14 doubles, two triples, four home runs, and had 31 RBI.

Hill, a fourth round draft pick of the Colorado Rockies, and the WCC Pitcher of the Year, made a remarkable impact in his first season in a Torero uniform. Named to the National Pitcher of the Year Watch List, Hill posted a sparkling 7-1 record in WCC action with a league-best 1.38 ERA. Opposing hitters managed a .163 batting average. In 72.0 innings, Hill allowed 11 earned runs and struck out 83 while walking 17. A three-time West Coast Conference Pitcher of the Week, Hill is the fourth Torero honored as Pitcher of the Year and the first since Kyle Blair in 2010. Overall, Hill posted a 9-3 record with a 2.23 ERA, while recording 115 strikeouts, and only issuing 35 walks in 100.1 innings of work. Hill became the first pitcher since 2010 to record at least 100 strikeouts in a single season, and his 115 punch out's currently ranks seventh in USD history for a single-season.

ABCA/Rawlings All-Americans will be announced on Saturday, June 13, and the ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove team will be announced on Sunday, June 14.

The ABCA/Rawlings All-America team was first recognized in 1949 and is the oldest All-America team in college baseball. The ABCA All-America committee is chaired by Dean Ehehalt of Monmouth University and also includes head coaches Mike Stone (Massachusetts), Brian O'Connor (Virginia), Tim Corbin (Vanderbilt), Steve Jaksa (Central Michigan), Steve Smith (Baylor), Tommy Raffo (Arkansas State) and George Horton (Oregon).

The ABCA, founded in 1945, is the primary professional organization for baseball coaches at the amateur level. Its over 6,600 members represent all 50 states and 23 countries. Since its initial meeting of 27 college baseball coaches in June 1945, Association membership has broadened to include eight divisions: NCAA Division I, II and III, NAIA, Junior College, Pacific Association Division, High School and Youth. The 72nd annual ABCA Convention will be held Jan. 7-10, 2016 in Nashville, Tennessee.
