Riley Adams taken by Toronto in the third round of the MLB Draft
June 13, 2017

SAN DIEGO, Calif. -- USD baseball's Riley Adams was selected by the Toronto Blue Jays with the 24th pick of the third round (No. 99 overall) in the MLB Draft Tuesday morning. Adams was the fourth college catcher taken in the draft. The Toreros have had a player taken in the first three rounds in each of the past five seasons.

Adams racked up numerous awards throughout the season, including being named the WCC Player of the Year and a semi-finalist for the Johnny Bench Award, given to the nation's top collegiate catcher.

On the year Adams batted .312 with 12 doubles, 13 homers, 47 RBI and 45 runs scored. His numbers in WCC play were just as impressive as he batted a team-best .380 with nine doubles, eight homers, 25 RBIs, 21 runs scored, and a .710 slugging percentage, which led the WCC. Additionally, he did an outstanding job behind the plate handling Torero pitchers and being a team leader.

The MLB draft continues through Wednesday with more Toreros expected to be selected. 11 Toreros were selected combined in the past two MLB drafts.
