Three Toreros Honored by Baseball America
Kris Bryant was invited to play for USA Collegiate National Team
Baseball America touted three Toreros as top prospects of their respective collegiate summer baseball leagues. Kris Bryant, who was invited to play for the 2012 USA Collegiate National Team, was named as the No. 4 prospect on the national team. Meanwhile, his teammates pitchers Michael Wagner and Dylan Covey were tabbed as No. 20 and No. 26 prospects respectively in the Cape Cod Baseball League.

Playing against other national teams such as the Netherlands and Cuba, Bryant hit .271 with three home runs and ten RBI. He got off to a fast start hitting .333 with all three of his home runs and eight RBI through his first eight games. Bryant cooled off over his final nine games, but his name continues to pop up in the first round of 2013 MLB mock drafts.

While Bryant was representing his country, junior pitchers Michael Wagner and Dylan Covey headed to the east coast to play in the Cape Cod League, which is considered to be the best collegiate summer league in the nation.

Pitching for the Chatham Angels, Wagner went 2-2 with a 1.57 ERA tallying 38 strikeouts in 34.1 innings. Wagner was selected to the 2012 Cape Cod Baseball League All-Star Game representing the East Division, where he pitched a perfect top of ninth inning, retiring the West All-Stars in order.

Dylan Covey also played in the Cape Cod League this past summer, pitching for the Orleans Firebirds. Covey appeared in 13 games (two starts) and finished with a 3-1 record posting a 3.86 ERA in 25.2 innings pitched.

With the opening of the state-of-the-art Fowler Park and potentially having multiple All-Americans, manager Rich Hill and the Toreros are poised to return to the postseason in 2013 and make a deep run into the playoffs.
