USD head coach Rich Hill scheduled fall games against San Diego State and UC Irvine
Sept. 21, 2012
The University of San Diego baseball head coach Rich Hill has released the Toreros 2012 fall schedule.
The Toreros, looking to build off last season's success, will kick off the fall season against their cross-town rival San Diego State October 28th. The Aztecs, who were 26-34 last season and 12-12 in the Mountain West, lost only three players from last year's squad and expect to contend for the Mountain West championship in 2013.
The Toreros will travel to take on UC Irvine November 3rd. The Anteaters went 31-25 last season and 13-11 in the Big West. Irvine returns a couple of key players from last year's squad in starting pitcher Andrew Thurman and 3B/OF Taylor Sparks. Thurman was the lone Anteater named to the 2012 All Big West first-team and Sparks was recently named the top prospect in the West Coast Summer League by Baseball America.
Both fall games will be played on the road due to the ongoing construction of Fowler Park, USD's new baseball facility, which will open in time for the spring season.
Toreros fall practices will begin on October 6th and conclude November 11th with USD Baseball Family Fun Day. Weekend scrimmages will be held at 2 p.m. at San Diego Mesa Community College. All scrimmages are open to the public.
The 2013 spring schedule will be released next week.
