PROVO, Utah - The University of San Diego men's basketball team (11-9, 4-1) suffered their first WCC loss of the season, falling to BYU (15-5, 5-1) 74-57 Saturday evening at the Marriott Center.

The Toreros were led by their sophomore backcourt duo, with Johnny Dee leading the team with 15 points. Christopher Anderson added 13 points to go with his seven assists.

The Toreros jumped out to an early 10-5 lead, but the Cougars quickly rallied and opened up a double-digit lead at 26-15 with 9:33 to go in the first half. Tyler Haws scored 15 of his game-high 25 points in the first half to help the Cougars take a 41-31 lead into the locker room at halftime.

The Toreros were able to cut the lead to single digits early in the second half, and a missed three-pointer from Ken Rancifer prevented the Toreros from pulling to within six points. From there BYU extended the lead to 46-36 with 17:39 left and Toreros were not able to crack the double-digit barrier after that. Cougar guard Tyler Haws scored a game-high 25 points.

The loss snaps the Toreros five game win streak. USD battled all night, but struggled from the field, shooting 36.7 percent. The Toreros were able to hold the Cougars to 21 percent shooting from 3-point range, but BYU still managed to covert 45 percent of their field goals. Jito Kok made his presense known on the defensive end of the floor with 4 blocked shots.

The Toreros are now one of three teams in the WCC with one conference loss, along with BYU (5-1) and Saint Mary's (4-1). USD will look to take down the Gaels (15-4, 4-1) on the road Thursday evening at 8:00 p.m. The game will be televised on Time Warner Sportsnet with the radio broadcast coming live from the Mighty 1090 AM.
