Gyno Pomare named First Team All-WCC

March 2, 2009

(San Diego, CA) - Senior forward Gyno Pomare was selected to the 2009 First Team All-West Coast Conference squad today. It is Pomare's third straight honor, and he joins Scott Thompson (1985-87) as the only Torero men's players to be selected First Team three different years. Pomare enters this week's WCC Tournament with team-best averages of 14.0 points and 6.1 rebounds. He ranks fourth in the WCC in field goal percentage (.538), 8th in scoring and 10th in rebounding. This season he became the program's all-time leading scorer and currently has 1,701 points and 856 rebounds. He matched his career-high of 25 points in USD's hard-fought 65-61 loss at Saint Mary's on February 19th. Sophomore guard Devin Ginty (Alta, CA) was named to the WCC All-Academic Team. The second-year guard has yet to declare a major, but he owns a 3.31 grade-point average. The 15-15 Toreros are the No. 5 seed for the 2009 WCC Tournament and will face No. 8 seed Loyola Marymount this coming Friday, March 6th, in the 6:00 p.m. contest at The Orleans Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
