(San Diego, Calif.) - The USD Toreros (16-16) found out this evening that they'll play Portland State (17-14) in their first round matchup in Tuesday's Postseason Tournament (CIT). The PSU Vikings, a member of the Big Sky Conference, tied for 5th in league play with their 11-9 record. They won five of their final six regular-season games, including a 66-59 win over Weber State who would eventually win the Big Sky Conference Tournament and earn the league's automatic bid into the NCAA's. Portland State beat Montana (70-63) in the Big Sky Conference Tournament before falling to North Dakota (79-63).

Since joining the NCAA Division I ranks for the 1979-80 season, this is USD's fifth postseason appearance and first outside of the NCAA Tournament (2008, 2003, 1987, 1984). USD and Portland State have faced each other five previous times with the Toreros owning a 4-1 record in the series. USD has won two straight with the last meeting coming during the 2001-02 campaign (74-59 win @ PSU).

Portland State, under the direction of head coach Tyler Geving (5th year), have four players that average in double-digit scoring - junior guard DaShaun Wiggins (12.8 ppg), junior guard Tim Douglas (11.9 ppg), junior guard Andre Winston (11.5 ppg) and senior forward Kyle Richardson (10.1 ppg, 6.4 rpg).

The Toreros are paced by junior guard Johnny Dee (16.8 ppg), sophomore wing Duda Sanadze (12.9 ppg), senior forward Dennis Kramer (11.6 ppg) and junior point guard Christopher Anderson (10.0 ppg, 5.9 assists). Tuesday's contest will air on ESPN 1700 AM with Andy Masur calling the action, and a free video stream at is available. Tickets are $12 for sideline and $10 for baseline and can be purchased through the JCP ticket office.

Second round games will be played over March 21st or 22nd. It is unclear who the Toreros would face were they to advance in the tournament -- the second-round matchups are chosen based on the results of the first round.
