(San Diego, CA) - University of San Diego men's basketball head coach Bill Grier and his staff is excited to announce that Christopher Sarbaugh has signed a national letter of intent and scholarship agreement for the upcoming 2013-14 school year.
Sarbaugh is a 6'3", 200 lb. combo guard from Spokane, Washington. This past season he played at North Idaho College in Coeur d'Alene, Washington.
"Chris is a Swiss Army Knife as a player...he does a little of everything and can play multiple positions," said Torero head coach Bill Grier. "He will give us depth at the point guard position but can also play either wing position due to his size. He is a proven winner. He led his team to the 4A State Championship in Washington as a senior at Gonzaga Prep, and this past year led North Idaho College to a top 10 national ranking in the NJCAA."
This past season at North Idaho College, a Division I Junior College, Sarbaugh appeared in 31 games with 30 starts while doing a little bit of everything for the 26-5 Cardinals. He averaged 7.6 points, 4.6 rebounds and 3.8 assists while converting 46.9 percent of his shots (84x179), 37.3 percent of his three-pointers (19x51) and 73.5 percent of his free throw attempts (50x68). Additionally, he chipped in with 58 steals (4th best in the conference).
Stated Jared Phay, his head coach this past season at North Idaho College, "Chris Sarbaugh is a proven winner and he is a dream to coach. He is a guy who can play multiple positions and is the ultimate competitor. His understanding of the game and the leadership he brings are things that are hard to find. I know Chris really likes the coaching staff at San Diego and is excited to be going there."
Sarbaugh attended Gonzaga Prep where he was named MVP of the 2011 State 4A Tournament after leading the team to the title. He had 17 points, 10 rebounds and six assists in a 61-41 win over Curtis in the championship game, and averaged 21 points for the entire tournament. A two-time First Team All-Greater Spokane League performer, he averaged 12 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists during his senior campaign.
