SAN DIEGO, Calif. - After several years of silver medals, the University of San Diego men's rowing team took decisive wins in both the varsity and freshman eights to grab gold at the City Championships this past Saturday at Mission Bay.
"We had some confidence going to the line," stateed head coach Brooks Dagman. "The squad has held together extremely well as both students and athletes this year. With some strong starts, our eights were able to set themselves up well early in the race. They were able to keep an eye on UCSD and adjust accordingly to stay ahead. All three of our eights were able to take some good lessons from a successful fall racing campaign and apply them to 2000 meter sprint racing. It was a real pleasure to see the entire squad revel in a great success. UCSD is an extremely capable program that we deeply respect. I suspect that we will see some great racing between the two programs this spring which will hopefully help both teams grab an AQ to attend Nationals."
Below are the boats that raced this weekend, and those who rowed in each boat.
Frosh 8: Kai Morse, Will Roman, Jack Pokalsky, Nick Watson, Mike Mohrman, Parker Danz, Matt Kaumeyer, Luke Uetrecht, Pierce Salamack.
Look for the Toreros to return to racing in Newport Beach on March 23rd.
