SAN DIEGOO, Calif. - The University of San Diego men's rowing team had a strong showing in the final day of the San Diego Crew Classic.
In the Men's Collegiate 2V Petite final, the Toreros boat of Caroline Barrett, Scott Haeusler, Taylor Terheggen, Gordie Nash, Mat Albrand, Chris Reyes, Gary Bastian, Dominic Spencer-Alvarado, and Nick Delgadofinished fifth, with a time of 7:07.76, just one second behind Washington State. UC San Diego won this race with a time of 6:50.47, followed by Gonzaga in second and UC Santa Barbara in third.
In the Men's Collegiate Varsity Petite race, the Torero boat of Mary Tausend, John Bacic, Jake Harrison, Henry Perazelli, William Stoney, Chris Sheehan, Glen Evans, Gary Bastian, and Stephen Wainwrightfinished second with a time of 6:49.78, just three seconds off the pace of the Orange Coast College boat. Coming in third place in the race was UC Santa Barbara, followed by UC Davis, MIT and UCLA respectfully.
San Diego will return to action on April 7, as they head up to Newport Beach to compete in the Newport Regatta.
