Men’s Crew Racing Friday Morning at Mission Bay
March 16, 2017

Coming off of an historical win at the Newport Regatta last weekend, your Toreros take to the waters of Mission Bay Friday morning to race with some of our fiercest competitors in the Conference - Gonzaga, Santa Clara, and UCSD.

"To make it to the IRA National Championships, the top two from our conference get the automatic qualifier," stated Head Coach Brooks Dagman. "In any given year you will find a crazed dog fight to get those top two spots with the separation between all these crews within a second of each other. There is a tremendous amount of respect that we all have for each other, and we look to use weekends like this where we will end up racing multiple times, to strengthen each other to be able to face other top ranked crews from around the country."

The formatting of the racing on Friday will be a straight up 2K along the Western Shore of Fiesta Island. Additional racing will take place in the afternoon on Friday, and again on Saturday morning.

"To have this type of competition this early in the season is a tremendous opportunity to get faster. Santa Clara, UCSD, as well as ourselves, have had some great success and fast times posted this season, and while Gonzaga hasn't had much time on the water yet this Spring, they are always big, fit, and dangerously fast having been toughened up by their grim winters," added Coach Dagman. "It is anybody's guess as to who will come out victorious tomorrow. Our boys have the training and the determination to go and get the job done, racing within sight of our University, it will definitely be a fun race to watch!"

Lineups and Viewing:

7:00AM : VARSITY 8: Kai Morse, Connor Olson, Nick Watson, Nick Bea, Parker Danz, Jack Pokalsky, Sam Stephens, Matt Kaumeyer, Konrad Altvater

7:30AM : JV 8: Will Graf, Luke Uetrecht, Jack Posthauer, Owen Chase, Jack Orr, Griffin Daniel, James Davenport, Luke Walbeck, Pierce Salamack

Best viewing option is to head out onto Fiesta Island (a one way road) and as you come around the big curve towards the main basin you will see a line of telephone poles. The pole furthest north is the finish line, with the starting line at the south end of the island near the opening of Sea World Channel - The Map link is HERE

We look forward to seeing you at the races!!!
