SAN DIEGO, Calif. The University of San Diego men’s rowing team returns to action on Mission Bay this weekend, Saturday March 31st and Sunday April 1st, for the one and only San Diego Crew Classic.
Saturday's racing kicks off with heats in the Varsity 8 in the American Specialty Health Cal Cup @ 7:40AM, followed by the JV 8 in the Sharp Cabrillo Cup @ 11:10AM, and capping it off with the Open 8 for the Joan Ward Memorial Trophy @ 2:20PM
"We have two eights that are filled with guys that love to race. After some seat racing and a few shifts in the lineups, we now have a First Varsity 8 that is competitive with Gonzaga and close to UCSD," state head coach Brooks Dagmen. "This group led in a recent match with the Bulldogs and the Tritons until the final minute of the race. Some fine tuning should bring this group the 3 or 4 seconds they need to be at the front of the Cal Cup. Another thing worth mentioning is that our Second Varsity 8 finished with an open water lead on Gonzaga last weekend. This group, while being rougher technically than the First Varsity, loves racing. They have some great attitudes toward the training, which is serving them well on the race course."
