In an emotional ceremony Sunday, the University of San Diego memorialized a deceased former rower turned Navy SEAL by naming an eight-man rowing shell after him.
The Michael Tatham, which will be used by USD as a competitive rowing vessel, was christened by the university in a ceremony that was a part of the San Diego Crew Classic in Mission Bay.
Over 150 family members and friends of Tatham gathered to remember and celebrate his life.
"There are probably 10 or 15 guys that would call Mike his best friend, and they're all right," said McGowan. "He was just one of those guys that would drop everything and do anything for you."
