Toreros Prep for Fall Classic
Nov. 11, 2016

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The University of San Diego men's rowing team will return to action this Sunday the 13th on its home waters of Mission Bay for the San Diego Fall Classic.

"After quite a bit of traveling this semester to various regattas as well as multiple trips to the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, it has been great to put in some consistent time on our home waters, " stated head coach Brooks Dagman. "The San Diego Fall Classic is quickly becoming a premier regatta, attracting crews not only from Southern California but from Oregon, the Pacific Northwest, and Utah. This is when San Diego really starts to shine as the temps are expected to be in the low 80s and the water fairly glassy."

With the result at the Head of the American 2 weeks ago finishing in front of all of USD's WCC rivals but still not the desired overall result, the Toreros have been stepping up their game and finding ways to increase hull speed.

"Last year we were able to win the Fall Classic in the Varsity 8, setting the course record, as well as in the Frosh 8," explained Dagman. "In order to duplicate those results, the team will need to come out firing on all 8 cylinders. The good news is that their performances on the water and on the erg over these last couple weeks has been demonstrating that this is indeed possible. Our goal is to once again establish that USD is the fastest crew in Southern California."

Racing begins with the Varsity and JV 8s in the Open 8 at 7:30 a.m., the Frosh 8 at 8:45 a.m., and then the Varsity 8 is breaking into 4s at10:00 a.m.

USD will be gathering at one of the gazebos near the Crew Classic finish line after the racing is done, to mingle with parents, administrators, and alums.
