Torero assistant Bobby Jay promoted to linebackers coach

Bobby Jay enters his seventh season with the Torero football program, and his fourth as the team's defensive backs coach. Additionally, he was promoted to Director of Recruiting prior to the 2015 campaign.

In 2015 the Torero secondary played a key role in helping the USD defense rank 10th statistically in the FCS national rankings at 18.0 points per game. In 2014 he played a key role in cornerback Jamal Agnew ranking No. 1 among all FCS players in passes defended (2.1 per contest).

In 2012 he was promoted to linebackers coach. In 2011 he was a defensive assistant, and for two years was the program's administrative assistant in charge of most day-to-day operations.

Prior to USD he spent three years as a Graduate Assistant at the University of Redlands where he coached safeties. The 2009 squad finished 7-2 and ranked 5th in total defense for NCAA Division III. In 2008 the Bulldogs went 7-2 and ranked 2nd in total defense.

Jay played four years (2002-2005) on the Redlands' football team where he competed on defense at safety. He participated on two teams that won Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) titles in 2002 and 2003. He graduated in May, 2006 with a degree in History and minor in Physical Education. During the 2006 and 2007 seasons he coached at Captial High School in Boise, Idaho.

Originally from Boise, Idaho, Jay played wide receiver and safety at Boise High School. He went on to earn his M.A. in Higher Education from the University of Redlands in December, 2009.
