Christian Taylor
Christian Taylor

Position:
Asst. Coach, WR's/Pass Game Coor. (4th Year)

Christian Taylor returns to the University of San Diego football staff where he will coach the wide receivers and be the pass game coordinator.

He returns to USD after spending the past two seasons at Illinois Wesleyan University where he was Offensive Coordinator, Recruiting Coordinator and Strength and Conditioning Coordinator. This past season the IWU offense averaged 34.3 points per game and ranked first in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) for Red Zone offense (88.4%, 8th nationally). The team finished 7-3 overall and was ranked as high as 15th in the national polls. Two running backs (Maurice Shoemaker-Gilmore and Austin Harrell) averaged 7 yards per carry and Taylor helped direct two players to 1st team All-CCIW honors (Shoemaker-Gilmore and WR Artie Checchin).

Taylor's first stint with USD came during the 2012 and 2013 seasons as the running back coach and recruiting coordinator. The Toreros went 8-3 in back-to-back seasons with the 2012 squad earning a share of the Pioneer Football League championship. During that time four Toreros earned All-PFL honors under his direction -- running back Joe Ferguson (1st Team, 2013), fullback Montell Allen (2nd Team, 2013), fullback Lawrence Larivee (1st Team, 2012), and running back Kenn James (Honorable Mention, 2013).

Prior to his first stop at USD, Taylor earned valuable experience at three other universities. In 2011 Taylor was an offensive football analyst at the University of Michigan, working with a team that went 11-2 and won the Sugar Bowl. In 2010 he was an offensive assistant at San Diego State with a team that was 9-4 and won the Poinsettia Bowl. And he spent two seasons on the William and Mary coaching staff (2008-09), gaining experience coaching tight ends (2008) and quarterbacks (2009). Besides helping to direct four players to All-Conference honors, former quarterback RJ Archer reached the NFL and played with Minnesota, Detroit and Seattle. Taylor also had responsibilities with the place-kickers, the video editing system, and in the team's recruiting efforts.

Taylor is a 2007 graduate with a degree in kinesiology from the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Va. He earned a pair of varsity letters as a quarterback for the Tribe and was a four-year member of the team's travel squad. The 2004 team advanced all the way to the FCS national semi-finals.

From Yorktown, Virginia, Taylor attended Grafton High School. He married Shay Timms (2 sons are Anthony and Tyler) over the summer. Shay earned her undergraduate degree (BBA '96) and Law degree (JD '99) from USD.
