He enters the 2017 campaign with impressive preseason credentials - STATS FCS Preseason All-America 2nd Team and First Team All-PFL... With 25.5 career sacks, needs 10 to surpass current No. 1 leader Eric Bakhtiari (35, 2005-2007)... In 2016 was a unanimous First-Team All-PFL pick after an impressive 12.5-sack, 23 tackles-for-loss campaign... He was named the team's Outstanding Defensive Lineman, a San Diego Hall of Champions Amateur Star of the Month (Nov.) and a PFL Player of the Week (Nov. 20, 5 tackles for loss and 3 sacks in road win over Campbell)... In 2015 received USD's Outstanding Lineman Award for defense and was selected All-PFL Second Team for defense... Named to PFL Honor Roll... Ranked fifth on the team with 51 tackles (24 solo)... Let Toreros in tackles for loss with 16 (-87 yards), quarterback sacks with 8 (-68 yards), quarterback hurries with 8, and forced fumbles with 3... Totaled 7 tackles in three games (Dayton, Drake, Campbell) and notched 2 sacks for -25 yards against Campbell... In 2014 earned the team's Outstanding Lineman Award for Defense... Selected All-PFL Honorable Mention... Appeared in 11 games with 8 starts... Totaled 36 tackles (20 solo) with 9.5 tackles for loss (-60 yards) and five sacks (-43 yards)... Additionally, added 3 forced fumbles, 1 fumble recover, 4 quarterback hurries and 1 pass breakup... Twice he collected 6 tackles in a game (Morehead State, Cal Poly)... Notched two sacks in two games (Marist, Butler).

HIGH SCHOOL: Attended Poway HS where he played for coach Damian Gonzalez... Senior year named 1st Team All-North County, 1st Team All-CIF, 2nd Team All-State and selected Palomar Defensive Player of the Year... Totaled 69 tackles and 13 sacks... Junior year team went 12-0-1 and were CIF Champions... Two-time Second Team All-Palomar (Jr. & So.)... Also lettered 3 years in lacrosse (two-time 1st Team All-League).

PERSONAL: Born on May 4, 1995 in San Diego, California... Son of Bob and Margaret Petersen... Chose USD to be close to home and winning program... Also recruited by Northern Arizona... Enjoys golf, beach volleyball and coaching youth basketball... Volunteer coach for Pop Warner and youth lacrosse.
