Lenny Vandermade enters his first season with the USD football program where he will coach the tight ends. This past season Vandermade was across town at San Diego State where he was a graduate assistant on Chuck Long's staff working with the offensive line.
Vandermade has NFL playing experience having been a member of both the Baltimore Ravens (2004) and Pittsburgh Steelers (2005-06) organizations. He also played in NFL Europe for the Hamburg Sea Devils in 2005. A four-year starter at USC at both center and left guard (2000-03), Vandermade was the starting guard on the 2003 Trojan national championship squad. In 2001 he was named to the Dave Rimington Trophy (top center) watch list, and in 2000 was a Freshman All-American (The Sporting News & Football News) after starting all 12 contests. He played in three Bowl Games - 2004 Rose Bowl, 2003 Orange Bowl, and 2001 Las Vegas Bowl. In 2004 he earned his bachelor's degree from USC in international relations.
From Santa Ana, California, Vandermade was a SuperPrep All-American at Mater Dei High School. He and his wife Stacey reside in the San Diego area.
