San Diego won its 28th consecutive PFL home game.
Running back Emilio Martinez continued his stellar freshman campaign, rushing for a team-high 93 yards on 13 carries. A major chunk of those yards came on an electrifying 52-yard run in the fourth quarter that set up the Toreros final field goal of the game and gave USD a 38-17 advantage.
Martinez also contributed 58 kickoff return yards to bring his all-purpose total up to 151 yards.
The Toreros defense played well and limited the Bulldogs (2-2, 0-1 PFL) to just three points in the second half. Max Michaels led a suffocating Toreros defensive effort with seven tackles. Kama Kamaka and Ray Clark spent a lot of time in the Bulldogs backfield, producing 1.5 tackles for loss apiece.
USD's defense was particularly impressive on third downs, holding Butler to four conversions on 13 attempts.
The Toreros will look to continue its momentum next Saturday when continues PFL play at Dayton at 9 a.m. (PT).
