DeLand, Fla. -- The USD Toreros dealt the Stetson Hatter a 48-7 loss today at Spec Martin Stadium. San Diego stayed perfect in PFL play improving to 5-0 and 6-2 overall on the season. The win was also USD's 18th straight PFL victory. Once again the Torero defense turned in a dominating performance limiting Stetson to 30 yards rushing and 262 total yards. USD's offense racked up 494 yards of total offense on the day.

The Toreros took the opening drive 74 yards over 11 plays with Anthony Lawrence connecting with Michael Keating for a 15-yard touchdown completion at the 10:06 mark. Lawrence completed 5-of-8 passes for 66 yards with Keating hauling in two for 37 yards. Stetson forced two Torero punts before stringing together a nice drive of their own late in the first quarter. Stetson's Colin McGovern connected with TE Donald Parham for two nice plays of 22 and 35 yards with the second catch setting up Gordon Stetson's 3-yard touchdown run around the left side. The Hatters went 60 yards on six plays knotting the score at 7-all with 1:34 left.

Early in the second quarter the Toreros went 65 yards over eight plays that was culminated with a 5-yard rushing score by Joseph Binda, Jr., his third rushing touchdown of the season to push the lead to 14-7 with 12:11 left in the half. After the Torero defense forced a three-and-out, San Diego marched down field again for their third score to make it 21-7 with 6:10 to go. Binda hurdled his way down to the goal line for an 8-yard gain and then scooped up his fumble across the goal line for his second TD of the game. Lawrence had a key 12-yard rush for a first down on the drive. Patrick Murray would add a 23-yard field goal just before the intermission break to make the score 24-7.

To start the second half the Torero defense forced a Hatter punt and David Tolbert returned it 38 yards up the middle to the Stetson 21-yard line. Four plays later Emilo Martinez punched it in from 6-yards out to extend USD's lead to 31-7 with 10:54 left in the third. After the Torero defense notched their third three-and-out of the game, Lawrence connected with TE Zach Holland for a 55-yard reception down to the Hatters' 8-yard line. Martinez added a 50-yard touchdown run around the left side to make it 45-7 with 4:26 left. That score would hold heading into the fourth quarter.

Patrick Murray would add a 35-yard field goal to make it 48-7 with 11:39 left. Those would be the final points of the game. Lawrence came out of the game late in the third period and finished the day 19-for-27 for 271 yards and two touchdowns. Top receivers included Justin Priest (5 for 91 yards), TE Ross Dwelley (4 for 39 yards) and Michael Keating (3 for 42 yards). Emilio Martinez, on the strength of his 50-yard TD sprint, was the top rusher with 87 yards on 11 carries. Joseph Binda Jr. finished with 46 yards on 10 carries.

The defense was paced by Colton Giorgi (7 tackles, 5 solo) and Max Michaels (6 tackles, 2 solo). Kicker Patrick Murray was a perfect 2-2 in field goals and added six PAT kicks for a total of 12 points on the day. He also did a nice job on kickoffs, averaging 62.2 yards on eight kicks with three touchbacks.

San Diego returns home to face the Drake Bulldogs on November 4th with a 2:00 p.m. kickoff slated for Walter J. Zable Field at Torero Stadium. The Toreros will be looking for their 19th consecutive PFL victory and 30th straight home PFL win.
