Hank Fraley and Christian Taylor join USD Football Staff

April 7, 2012

(San Diego, CA) - USD head football Ron Caragher has announced the hiring of Hank Fraley and Christian Taylor to the USD football coaching staff as assistant coaches. Fraley will be the team's offensive line coach while Taylor will oversee the running backs.

"I am excited to announce the addition of Hank Fraley and Christian Taylor to our staff," said head coach Ron Caragher. "Hank's understanding of offensive line fundamentals, the run game, and pass protection schemes will be an asset to our program. Additionally, his experience as a veteran player in the NFL will be a benefit to our team. Christian is also a welcomed addition to our program. He has a bright offensive mind and has benefitted from his experiences as both a position coach at William & Mary and working under Al Borges at both Michigan and SDSU.

Fraley, who spent 10 years in the NFL as an offensive lineman, enters his first year as a coach. He began his NFL career with the Pittsburgh Steelers as an undrafted free agent in 2000. He debuted in 2001 with the Philadelphia Eagles where he stayed through the 2005 campaign. He also spent time with the Cleveland Browns (2006-2009) and St. Louis Rams (2010). Overall he played in 142 games with 123 starts, as well as 10 postseason starts, including Super Bowl XXXIX with the Eagles. Although he spent most of his time at center, he also started at guard and saw action at right tackle early in his career.

From Gaithersburg, Maryland, Fraley was a three-time All-America selection and a three-time first-team All-Northeast Conference choice at tackle while attending Robert Morris. Selected as the Football Gazette's Lineman of the Year and his team's Co-Most Valuable Player in 1999, he graduated with a degree in social science. Hank and his wife Danielle have four sons - Trent, Mason, Travis and Beau.

Taylor joins the Torero staff after spending this past season with the University of Michigan football staff as an intern in the position of offensive analyst for first year head coach Brady Hoke. Taylor worked directly under offensive coordinator Al Borges and was responsible for 'breaking down' opposing defense's schemes, tendencies, and personnel. He held a similar role two seasons ago at San Diego State University for both Hoke and Borges.

A 2007 graduate of William and Mary where he earned a degree in Kinesiology, Taylor earned a pair of varsity letters as a quarterback for the Tribe (2002-06) and was a four-year member of the team's travel squad. Following graduation, he spent two seasons with coaching staff (2008-09) gaining experience coaching tight ends (2008) and quarterbacks (2009). He also had responsibilities with the place-kickers, the video editing system, and in the team's recruiting efforts.
