Mills back to lead Torero offense

TOREROS REPORT TO CAMP AUGUST 7TH: The USD Torero football team, under the direction of sixth-year head coach Ron Caragher, will report to camp on Tuesday, August 7th. Coach Caragher and his staff are expecting 110 student-athletes to report with the first practice slated for Wednesday, August 8th, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Manchester Field (complete camp schedule below). Practices are open to the media - please contact the USD Media Relations office in advance.
TORERO TIDBITS: Sixth-year head coach Ron Caragher (36-19 record), the 2011 Pioneer Football League Coach of the Year, returns 12 starters and 47 letter winners from last year's 9-2 club that was crowned PFL champions (7-1 record, tied with Drake). Despite losing 22 players from last year's squad, the Toreros return 12 starters, including seven All-PFL returners: junior DE Blake Oliaro (2012 Buchanan Watch List; 2011 PFL Defender of the Year), junior RB Kenny James (USD MVP), senior LB Zach Dunaj, junior QB Mason Mills (USD Offensive MVP), junior WR Sam Hoekstra, sophomore wide receiver Brandon White (2011 PFL Offensive Freshman of the Year) and senior offensive lineman Matt Peleti. Coach Caragher welcomes a new recruiting class of 43 players. The Toreros have been picked to finish first in the 2012 PFL Preseason Coaches Poll. COACHING STAFF: Coach Caragher welcomes back assistants Sam Anno (Special Teams Coor./Defensive Line; 4th year), Tanner Engstrand (Off. Coordinator/Quarterbacks; 8th year), Steve Irvin (Corner Backs), Bobby Jay (Linebackers; 3rd year), Mike Rish (Senior Offensive Administrative Assistant; 29th year), and Joe Staab (Safeties/Recruiting Coor.; 4th year). Dale Lindsey, who was on the Torero staff back in 2008, returns as Defensive Coordinator. Torero assistants in their first year include Hank Fraley (Offensive Line), Greg Lewis (Wide Receivers), Christian Taylor (Running Backs) and Cory White (Tight Ends).
2012 SCHEDULE: The Toreros will kickoff the 2012 season on Saturday, September 1st with a 4:00 p.m. nonconference road game at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. USD's home opener is September 8th vs. Western New Mexico (6pm), followed by a road game at Harvard (Sept. 15th, 12:30 pm). The PFL slate will begin at home against Valparaiso (Sept. 22; 1pm), with additional PFL home dates against Campbell (Oct. 13; 2pm), Dayton (Oct. 27; 6pm) and Morehead State (Nov. 10; 6pm). PFL road contests include Drake (Oct. 6; 12:30 pm), Jacksonville (Oct. 20; 1pm), Marist (Nov. 3; 4pm) and Davidson (Nov. 17; 1pm). All times are local site times.
