SAN DIEGO -- Former Torero wide receiver Brian Riley signed a free agent contract with the Indianapolis Colts this week. Riley participated in the Colts' rookie minicamp on a tryout basis back in May. From nearby Rancho Bernardo, California (Rancho Bernardo HS), Riley played in 45 games at the University of San Diego, totaling 98 receptions for 1,768 yards and 15 touchdowns. He also saw action as a defensive back in his first two seasons and tallied 26 tackles, including 17 solos.
Riley earned All-Pioneer League recognition twice, making the first team in 2016 and second team in 2015. He also was a three-time member of the Pioneer Football League Honor Roll. In 2016, Riley started all twelve games for the 19th-ranked Toreros (10-2 record) and caught 54 passes for 986 yards and seven touchdowns. He led the team in receiving yards and three times totaled 100+ yards in a game. He pulled in six balls for 126 yards against Dayton; seven receptions for 116 yards and 2 touchdowns against Drake; and five catches for 139 yards vs. Davidson. He was the recipient of the team's Dave Adolph "Do You Love Football" Award for Offense.
Riley follows in the footsteps of former USD standout John Matthews who signed on with the Colts in 2009 as an undrafted free agent.
