San Diego, Calif. - Tim Drevno has been named assistant men's football coach at the University of San Diego, it was announced by head coach Kevin McGarry. Drevno, who will be McGarry's Offensive Coordinator and Offensive Line Coach, replaces Greg Quick who left to become head coach at Concord College in West Virginia. Also joining the Torero staff will be Michael Fisher as tight ends coach and Shaun Murgel as defensive line coach.
Tim Drevno comes to USD from the University of Idaho where he was the Offensive Line Coach from 2000 to 2002. The offense ranked 6th in the nation in 2001 and 8th in 2000. Prior to Idaho he gained coaching experience at San Jose State as offensive line coach (1999-2000); at UNLV as running backs coach (1998); at Montana State as running backs coach (1993-98); and at Cal State Fullerton as a graduate assistant (1991-92).
A 1992 graduate of Cal State Fullerton where he earned his degree in Criminal Justice, Drevno was a two-year starter at offensive guard for the Titans. He was also an All-Mission Conference offensive tackle at El Camino College where they were crowned national champions in 1987.
Michael Fisher joins USD from Syracuse University where he was a graduate assistant coach since 2000. At Syracuse he coached with both offense and special teams, and also gained experience in coordinating defensive and special teams scout teams; film breakdown of all opponents; coordinating recruiting weekends; off-season strength & conditioning programs; and summer camps. Prior to Syracuse he was a tight ends coach at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo (1998-2000), and an offensive line coach at Santa Margarita High School (1994-98). A 1999 graduate of Cal Poly SLO, Fisher earned his B.S. degree in Kinesiology.
Shaun Murgel comes to USD via the University of Montana Western where he was a defensive assistant coach since 2001. This past season he was the linebackers coach, and in 2001 was the defensive ends coach. Prior to that he was head football coach at Shepherd High School in Shepherd, Montana (1996-2000) and assistant football coach at Broadwater High School (1995-96) in Townsend, Montana. He earned his B.S. in Secondary Education from Western Montana College in 1996.
