GAME #10: The USD Toreros (5-1 PFL, 6-3), under the direction of first year head coach Dale Lindsey, play their final regular-season road contest this Saturday, November 9th, at Morehead State (3-3 PFL, 3-6) in Morehead, Kentucky. Kickoff is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. (PST) at Jayne Stadium/Jacobs Field (10,000 capacity).

Toreros Keep Championship Hopes Alive, Knock Off Morehead State 41-28
The University of San Diego football team (6-3, 5-1) defeated Morehead State (3-7, 2-5) 41-28 on senior night to extend their home win streak to twelve. It was the fourth consecutive win for the Toreros and keeps their hopes alive of becoming co-champions of the PFL.

SERIES RECORD: This will the ninth meeting between USD and Morehead State with the Toreros owning a perfect 8-0 winning mark against the Eagles... In last year's meeting, a 41-28 Torero victory on Nov. 10th at Torero Stadium, USD was paced by running back Dallas Kessman (190 yards rushing, 2 TDs), QB Mason Mills (26-29 for 229 yards and 2 TDs), WR Reggie Bell (8 receptions for 71 yards, including a 5-yard TD) and safety Joey York (14 tackles).

WEBCAST/VIDEO STREAM: Saturday's contest will be webcast with Jack Cronin (play-by-play) bringing you all the action. His pre-game call begins at 9:50 a.m. (PST). LOG JAM AT TOP OF PFL STANDINGS: With six PFL teams within one game of the PFL lead, Week 11 becomes all about avoiding a pitfall... The USD Toreros sit atop the PFL standings at 5-1 with Butler and Marist... The Toreros, who own the tie-breaker scenario against these two programs, makes the always tough trip to Morehead State before returning home for their season final against Drake on November 16th... The Butler Bulldogs host Valparaiso this weekend before completing their season at Morehead State on November 16th... The Marist Red Foxes play at Campbell this weekend before closing out their regular season against Mercer on November 16th... The Mercer Bears, currently with a 4-1 mark, host Jacksonville this weekend, and after their trip to Marist on the 16th, return home to host Stetson on November 23rd... Dayton (4-2) and Drake (4-2) are still in the mix, however they face off with each other this weekend... Dayton will close with Valparaiso on the 16th, while Drake comes to San Diego... For the first time, the PFL regular-season champion will receive an automatic bid into the Division I Football Championship... TORERO TIDBITS: The Toreros make their second straight trip back east when they travel to Morehead, Kentucky this weekend... USD heads back riding a modest two-game winning streak... Like last season, the Torero defense is playing its best football down the stretch... They have allowed just 14 points in each of their last two wins against Butler and Valparaiso... On the other side of the ball, the Torero offense continues to motor on... The USD offense, which owns three straight games with 5 touchdown passes, is averaging just under 500 yards of offense per game at 496.4 (320.1 pass, 176.3 rush)... Senior QB Mason Mills has been a model of passing efficiency this season with the Toreros ranking 10th in the nation in completion percentage (a PFL best 66.0%) and passing offense (320.1 yards per game)... Those impressive numbers help the Toreros post a team pass efficiency rating of 168.13 which ranks 5th nationally... Individually, Mills ranks among the nation's leaders in passing touchdowns (4th, 28), completion percentage (65.8, 14th), passing yards per game (310.9, 8th) and passing efficiency (168.2, 6th)... His top three targets continue to be Reggie Bell (49 catches for 821 yards and 6 TDs), senior Sam Hoekstra (43 receptions for 709 yards and 6 TDs) and junior Brandon White (38 catches for 505 yards and 10 TDs)... White owns three straight games with 2 touchdown receptions... USD continues to have one of the best one-two backfield threats in the PFL in seniors Joe Ferguson (762 yards, 5 TDs) and Kenn James (623 yards, 4 TDs)... This past weekend they both cracked the 100-yard rushing mark (Ferguson, 125; James, 118)... It marked the first time two Torero rushers cracked 100 yards rushing in the same game since September 30, 2006, a 50-21 road win at Davidson (JT Rogan, 151 yards & 2 TDs; Josh Johnson, 127 yards, 1 TD)... Freshman punter Ryan Belden continues to pace PFL punters in average (43.9) while ranking 9th in the nation... The only other freshman ahead of him nationally is Lawrence Forbes of Morgan State at #3 (45.0)... Some other team stats where USD is doing well nationally include time of possession (#9, 33:07), 3rd down conversion percentage (#10, .482), first down offense (#12, 217) and scoring offense (#14, 39.0)... Through six PFL games the Toreros rank first in scoring (46.2) and third in scoring defense (19.8) for a scoring margin of +26.4.

FOUR TOREROS RECEIVE PFL RECOGNITION: Four Toreros have been recognized by the Pioneer Football League this season as PFL Players of the Week - senior DE Blake Oliaro (Folsom, Calif.) for defense on Oct. 13th, redshirt sophomore kicker David Last (Valley Center, Calif.) for special teams on Oct. 13th; senior quarterback Mason Mills (Coronado, Calif.) for offense on Oct. 27th; and freshman punter Ryan Belden (Diamond Bar, Calif.) for special teams on Oct. 27th... In the team's come-from-behind 35-33 win over Marist on October 12th at Torero Stadium, Oliaro finished with 10 tackles (9 solo), including two sacks and one in the Marist endzone for a team safety... Last kicked the game-winning field goal with no time left on the clock from 28-yards out; for the game he added a 32-yard FG and was 3-for-4 in PAT kicks. In the team's 42-14 home win over Butler on October 26th, Mills completed 26-of-36 passes for 407 yards adn 5 touchdowns... In leading USD to a 35-7 halftime advantage, Mills had totals of 15-for-19 for 297 yards and 3 TDs by the intermission break... His 54-yard TD strike to Sam Hoekstra put him over the 10,000 yard milestone for passing yards... Belden averaged 46.0 yards on four punts in the win... He had two punts go for 50 or more yards, including a 59-yard bomb from his own end zone... He had two punts downed inside the 20-yard line, and his 50-yard punt was downed inside the Butler 10-yard line... his final punt was his shortest, a 32-yard boot that was fair-caught inside the Butler 20-yard line.

SCOUTING MOREHEAD STATE: The Morehed State Eagles sit at 3-3 in the Pioneer Football League standings and 3-6 overall on the season... They will be looking to snap a 2-game skid after last Saturday's 56-14 road loss to the Drake Bulldogs... In that contest the host Bulldogs totaled 511 yards of offense (290 passing, 221 rushing) in a balanced attack over the MSU Eagles... Morehead State was paced by QB Austin Gahafer (16-34 for 139 yards), RB Logan Johnson (38 yards rushing, 1 TD), and CB Steven Lester (careeer high 12 tackles)... Prior to dropping their past two games the Eagles had won three straight games against Davidson (45-14 on Sept. 28), at Campbell (45-36 on Oct. 5th) and at Valparaiso (42-38 on Oct. 19th)... Season leaders include Gahafer (188-303 for 1,812 yards and 11 TDs), RB Rees Macshara (342 yards), slot Brandon Bornhauser (6 rushing TDs), WR Jake Raymond (45 catches for 479 yards and 1 TD), slot Cyrus Strahm (36 catches for 305 yards), punter Pat Disalvio (37.7 average), MLB Jordan Hendrix (61 tackles, 1.5 sacks), FS John Coleman (53 tackles, 3 forced fumbles), and SS Michael Jackson (52 stops, 3 interceptions)...
