USD football players Al-Rilwan Adeyemi (Santa Monica, CA) and Stanley Shurson (Ramona, CA) were named Pioneer Football Players of the Week after their outstanding performances in the Toreros 34-0 victory over Morehead State this past Saturday.
Adeyemi, a junior defensive back, shared PFL Defensive Player of the Week honors with two other league members (Devon Langhorst, Dayton; Dain Taylor, Drake). He became just the third PFL defender to record two interceptions in a game, helping San Diego post a 34-0 shutout victory against visiting Morehead State, Saturday, in PFL action. His first interception came on Morehead State's first drive and he returned it 54 yards for USD's first score. Adeyemi added another pick in the second quarter- his fifth this season. He also chipped in with two solo tackles.
Shurson earned his second PFL honor of the season. Against Morehead State he scored 10 points, making two of three field goals and converting on all four PAT kicks. He made field goals of 30 and 33 yards before missing from 41 yards in the fourth quarter. He added six punts, averaging 33.0 yards per punt and placed two inside the 20-yard line and one went for a touchback. Shurson also averaged 63.3 yards on seven kickoffs, booting three into the end zone for touchbacks.
The Toreros (4-6; 4-3 PFL) close out their 2010 campaign this Saturday at Davidson College. Kickoff is slated for 10:00 a.m. (PT) with Jack Cronin calling all the action on www.usdtoreros.com.
