Four Toreros earn 2012 Capital One Academic All-America® District 8 Honors

(San Diego, CA) - The USD football program received some good news today when it was announced that four of their student-athletes were named to the 2012 Capital One Academic All-America District 8 Division I football team. All four Toreros will now be eligible for the national team. The four Toreros senior offensive lineman Matt Peleti (Laguna Niguel, CA; 3.61 GPA, Finance), junior defensive back Robbie Beathard (San Diego, CA; 3.79 GPA, Accountancy), junior defensive end Blake Oliaro (Folsom, CA; 3.56 GPA, Mechanical Engineering), and sophomore defensive back Troy McClelland (San Diego, CA; 3.84 GPA, Accountancy). The trio of Peleti, Beathard and Oliaro were selected for the second straight year.

Student-athletes are nominated by current CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) members. Voting for Academic All-District (First, Second and possible Third Team members are named) is done by current CoSIDA members. Those who obtain First Team All-District status move onto the national Academic All-America ballot; these national awards (First Team, Second Team, Third Team for each sport category) is voted upon by Academic All-America Committee members and current CoSIDA Board of Directors.

The USD Toreros, with a record of 5-3 (4-1 PFL), return to action this Saturday, November 9th, when they host Morehead State in a 6:00 p.m. kickoff at Walter J. Zable Field at Torero Stadium.
